Job Description

Security & IT Controller – Defence, NATO, Government Consultancy

Location:  Portsmouth, Hampshire – Hybrid role

Salary: up to £65,000 plus excellent benefits

 

Our client a successful technical consultancy, following a sustained period of growth they are now looking to recruit an experienced Security Controller with solid experience in the defence sector.

You will develop and oversee the company's increasing security and related IT activity.  This role is responsible for devising and implementing the company’s security strategy in line with UK Government and NATO Security requirements, whilst maintaining compliance for the businesses within the group.

 

Key Responsibilities – Security Controller /Security IT Controller - operate as the lead for all company security related matters, including the following areas:

 

Security Personnel Administration

  • Determine appropriate levels of security clearance and the processing of individual cases with a view to achieving the required level of clearance, maintaining an aftercare process.
  • BPSS clearing new starters and liaising with vetting team ref SC and DV clearances.
  • Administer Incoming and Outgoing UK and Overseas Visit Requests, liaising with IVCO as necessary.
  • Deliver travel briefs for those traveling in line with current security guidance and clearance.
  • Liaison with the Defence Vetting Agency (e.g. UKSV and equivalent).

 

Facilities Security

  • Manage implementation and transition to FSC status (formerly List X) and ongoing compliance.
  • Administer employee and contractor entry passes.
  • Manage receipt and dispatch of all classified assets.
  • Maintain classified asset register.
  • Conduct classified asset musters.

 

IT Support

  • Manage the information assurance profile of our IT infrastructure.
  • Manage and maintain Cyber Essentials Plus certification.
  • Ensure adherence to required security frameworks, protocols on site and maintaining appropriate accreditations.
  • Liaising with IT support team on all security related IT matters.

 

Quality, Standards & Training

  • Liaising with the Quality Team, ensuring correct updated security policy and supporting documentation is within the Quality Management System.
  • Reporting of security incidents to Director level and assist with investigations.
  • Conduct security briefings for new personnel, including periodic re-briefs and updates as Government Policy develops.
  • Flow down and management of Security Aspects Letters (SAL’s).
  • Assist with government audits.
  • Assist with customer audits.
  • Prepare and maintain policy and procedures for handling, storing, and keeping records.

 

Skills and Qualifications for the role of Security Controller – Security IT Controller:

Essential:

  • Current Security Clearance.
  • Previous experience as a Security Controller in a Defence business.
  • Sound knowledge of current UK Government and NATO security procedures, knowledge of Security Policy Framework, and ISO 27001.
  • Experience of implementing and working within an FSC environment (formerly List X).
  • Knowledge of supporting security disciplines, including document control, visitor clearances, personnel security processing and security processes and procedures
  • MoD recognised Security qualification (e.g. DISA)
  • Positive and professional attitude with the ability to work well independently.
  • Proactive with the ability to identify process improvement and implement any changes.
  • In-depth understanding of security vetting and the threats to an organisation’s security and integrity

 

Desirable:

  • Experience as a Security Controller in a Defence business preferably with 70+ staff over more than one site.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong IT Skills – Microsoft 365 programmes and cloud services

 

Other Requirements: 

  • Candidates must be a single UK National.
  • Have current UK Security Clearance

 

Note:  Although an office-based role in Portsmouth, there will be an expectation of travel between company   offices and to Customer meetings as required.
