Senior Mechanical Engineer – Electronics, Wireless, Mobile Communication and Antenna Systems

 

Our client is a highly successful global company delivering state-of-the-art wireless and connectivity and mobile communication solutions that give their customers a competitive edge.

 

They are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be responsible for the mechanical development of components, subsystems and complete assemblies for release to manufacture.

 

Candidates need to have a strong electronics product design background along with good thermal analysis skills. You need a good understanding of electronics, PCB technology and the interaction with Mechanical design. Fluent in performing thermal analysis and optimising designs to meet the thermal requirements. Must be able to demonstrate a track record of optimising designs for thermal requirements. Understand the physics of heat and the core principles of how to manage it. This includes the use of hand-calculations and non-FEA based analysis   thermal analysis software

 

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Bachelor’s Degree or alternative with relevant experience.

Experienced in performing degree level engineering calculations on a regular basis.

Chartered Engineer or working towards it.

Familiar with principles of 3D CAD modelling. Minimum of 5000 hours experience in a mid or high end CAD package, preferably SolidWorks. Has a hands-on approach and exhibits judicious use of CAD technology.

Has a good understanding of electronics, PCB technology and the interaction with Mechanical design.

Fluent in performing thermal analysis and optimising designs to meet the thermal requirements. Can demonstrate a track record of optimising designs for thermal requirements.

Understands the physics of heat and the core principles of how to manage it. This includes the use of hand-calculations and non-FEA based analysis   thermal analysis software.

Familiar with working in a Quality environment and ensuring adherence to Quality procedures.

Skilled in problem solving using a variety of techniques appropriate to the situation.

Excellent communication skills including drafting to BS 8888 with the full application of GD&T.

Focused on finding cost effective solutions in all design work.

Ability to manage working on multiple projects while dealing with day to day requests.

Proven experience working on the development of new products with some experience in developing electronic products.

Experienced in design for low volume production (< 5,000 Per Annum).

Proven experience of designing for CNC machining and other low volume processes.

Proven experience in working/liaising with subcontractors.

Experience of designing industrial equipment or similar products.

Can demonstrate thorough understanding and application of the product development process from concept to launch.

Practiced in the use of traditional and state of the art tools to ensure designs are robust, reliable and optimised for production.

 

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer your main responsibilities will involve:

Mechanical development of components, sub-systems and complete products from concept through to release for manufacture. This includes supporting products in manufacture. Main components typically include die cast and pressed metal housings, CNC machined shielding, custom cables, labels and fittings. Development may include optimising designs to meet demanding thermal requirements.

 

At times will act in a supporting role producing drawings and performing design updates. At other times will be called on to act as the sole Mechanical Engineer on projects and programs with responsibility for the entire mechanical development ensuring designs are robust, fully documented, prototyped, tested and introduced to the production line without problem.
