Senior Technical Author – Aviation, Aerospace

 

Our client is a highly successful global aerospace company due to expansion are looking for a

Senior Technical Author to provide authoring that conforms to company documentation and quality assurance standards, and who will assist the Technical Publications Manager in controlling work undertaken across the department.  The incumbent will be experienced in writing and editing operational, instructional, maintenance or test procedures for paper, multimedia or web-based publications and maybe required to assume responsibility across a number of projects.  He or she will interact with various users and technical staff to gather data for documentation and to research and translate technical information into manuals and documents for customers and other users. The applicant should also be able to demonstrate some experience in validation and quality assurance aspects pertaining to technical publications. 

 

As a Senior Technical Author your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

A good knowledge of major specifications.

Knowledge of Commercial Aviation standards & regulations (FAA, EASA, CAA) highly desirable.

City and Guilds 5360, Part 1 - Communication of Technical Information and Part 2 - Technical Authorship, solid relevant experience is essential

Sound electro-mechanical background in an aerospace environment.

In-depth knowledge of S1000D, ATA iSpec 2200 and associated specifications.

Conversant with ATA100 and AvP70 specifications.

Defence and Commercial experience is preferred, client is moving more towards commercial regulations so a senior technical author who is working at commercial airlines (BA, Virgin etc.) would be of interest. An author who has experience of defence & commercial would be ideal

Aerospace experience is essential.

 

As a Senior Technical Author your main responsibilities will involve:

Control of document production for nominated projects.

Producing estimates for technical documentation production when required by customer.

Some management of less experienced staff during document production.

Liaison with design engineers during production and validation of technical documentation.

Liaison with customer during production of publications and during equipment acceptance for customer driven changes to publications.

Participation in Tender / Contract Reviews, Design Reviews, Change Request Board and Failure Review Board meetings as required.

Day to day liaising with Safety, ILS, Airworthiness & Project Leadership. Senior Technical Authors, will be customer facing and should know when to push back on a customer requesting alteration/ challenging technical publications or when to escalate back to the business.
