Chief Engineer – Electronics

 

Our client is a highly successful global company, they design and manufacture active and passive avionics antennas and electronic control systems for military and civil communications, navigation and search and rescue applications

You will be managing a team of 30 plus qualified engineers consisting of RF Engineers, Electronics Engineers up to Principal Engineering level, Hardware Engineers, DSP Engineers etc.

 

The Chief Engineer supports the VP in the implementation of engineering strategy within the discipline. The Chief Engineer leads, manages and drives the performance of the electronics engineering discipline including engineering and LCM process implementation, quality of the engineering practice, tool adoption and use, and competency, capability and capacity assessment and management. The Chief Engineer supports the Engineering Operations Manager in managing the resource allocation and task assignment, the CE will lead discipline excellence through processes, practices and continuous improvement to improve the performance, capability and competencies of the discipline.

The ability to lead and manage a high performing electronics teams

Experience in commercial, aerospace and defence industries, markets, products and technologies

The ability to work within a large organization in a matrix management structure

Decision making / problem solving – able to make decisions in complex and ambiguous situations and with incomplete data

Ability to build excellent relationships with the BU engineering leadership team and peers across the company

Strong communication skills

Ability to provide role modeling to the electronics discipline team in line with the company’s core values and behaviors 

Familiarity with engineering processes, practices and measures of performance for the discipline and ability to drive their continuous improvement

 

Qualifications and Experience – Chief Engineer:

Deep discipline domain knowledge, with experience in the application of the discipline to the entire product life cycle from inception to delivery (Electronics, Aerospace, defence sectors)

Experience in managing an Electronic Engineering team

Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills

Demonstrated ability to lead and facilitate progressive change in processes, practices and measures of performance 

Degree in the engineering discipline required (alternatively, for CAD, documentation and related disciplines – demonstrated deep expertise/domain knowledge.

 

Key Responsibilities – Chief Engineer:

Create and maintain the technology roadmap for the discipline, define the research work packages and oversea the execution

Support the alignment of our roadmaps with those of key customers, including customer visits, presentation and business development activities

Define the future state of the discipline from the roadmap in terms of skills, maturity, capacity and make versus buy

Identify areas for coordinated improvement, and work with Engineering Council to take action to improve engineering skills, processes, and knowledge for the discipline

Drive the development of capability within the team through staff development, new tools and process

Provide technical governance and oversight to the project portfolio, including signing off estimates and plans

Responsible for implementing design review practice in accordance with LCM project governance

Act as a level 1 signatory for the Airworthiness Approvals

and related disciplines – demonstrated deep expertise / domain knowledge)
