Research Innovation Manager – Wireless Communication Systems

Salary:  £65,000 to £75,000 plus bonus and excellent benefits

Hybrid role

Job Overview – Research Innovation Manager

As an  Research & Innovation Manager, you will be responsible for heading up the Advanced Research Team (also known as the Proof-of-Concept team) to create and prove new product concepts and new technologies that are to be exploited by the BU and Engineering to enhance the existing product lines or to create new product lines to give company growth and competitive edge.  You will be responsible for a team of five engineers.

 

Your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Minimum of MSc or preferably PhD in Wireless Communications or an associated discipline
  • Proven hand-on experience on conducting research projects on wireless communication domain
  • Track record of publishing patents and publications is desirable
  • Working on emerging or 6G technologies research topics e.g., Cloud computing, AI/ML, Open network, New Air Interface, Space-Terrestrial communication
  • C/C++ based real-time signal/parallel processing on x86 server
  • Working experience on hardware/software architecture for low latency communication
  • Good understanding on wireless system architecture / protocol / interface / signal processing
  • Strong collaboration and team working skills, including cross-functionally, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships across all levels
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to work within multiple and/or complex projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to solve complex issues using in depth evaluation methods and techniques
  • Contributes to strategic decision-making
  • Experience as a line manager or relevant role, with the ability to work with little input
  • Experience of mentoring and coaching the same or junior levels
  • Ability to foster and reinforce teamwork and trust

 

Key Responsibilities re role of Research Innovation Manager:

  • Plan, coordinate and execute assigned research projects.
  • Supervise team members on daily basis to complete research projects within deadlines
  • Track project progress periodically and report to management
  • Building core expertise and capabilities for creating testbeds and proof of concepts
  • Developing the right technology necessary to anticipate customer needs and the technology trend
  • Rapid prototyping new concepts for evaluation by Engineering, BU, and customers
  • Identify areas of improvements and develop new methodologies and generate intellectual property
  • Establish strategic customer and cooperation relationships with key customers and technology partners
  • Support the development/sales/promotion of leading-edge concepts and solutions to customers
  • Explore external funding opportunities and collaborations, which are in line with Engineering and BU’s long-term objectives, to build the Advanced Research Team’s capabilities
  • Participate in the external research projects and collaborate with industrial/academia partners to carry out research activities
