Test Engineer (Lightning Testing) – Aerospace


Our client is looking for a Test Engineer (Lightning Testing).  As a Test Engineer you will be carrying out testing on fuel/structural aerospace systems for effects of lightning. You will work as a member of the technical team in Abingdon to support customer’s test and development programmes. It is the perfect opportunity for an Engineer or Test Technician to join an experienced specialist team.


As a Test Engineer (Lightning Testing) your skills and qualifications will ideally include: 

A background in testing & measurement

Practical hands-on approach, aptitude for experimental testing and problem solving

Candidates from HNC/HND to degree level will be welcomed, or individuals with equivalent experience

Knowledge Electrical of High Voltage systems would be beneficial

Workshop experience (Milling and Turning) would be advantageous

Full UK driving licence 


As a Test Engineer (Lightning Testing) your main responsibilities will involve: 

Carrying out testing, recording and assessing the test data, photographing the samples/set up and writing reports on the findings of the test programmes.

Working with customers to help identify and plan suitable test programmes for their structure or system.

Supporting other members of the team in diverse test programmes. 


Client information - This is an R/D facility, they test aircraft components (Avionics instruments and Mechanical parts for lighting Strikes.   They provide a testing service for the effects of lightning, and design support, particularly for the Aerospace Industry. As a Technician with the team in Abingdon, you will participate in testing programmes for aerospace structures and systems and write Test Reports for the customer. Testing is usually to small scale systems or components. It covers areas such as physical damage to composite structure, protection of fuels system components from ignition hazards, and verification that critical avionics systems will continue to operate. You will work closely with the technical team in Abingdon to support customer’s test and development programmes
