Do you have strong skills in precision engineering?

Working as a Mechanical Inspector (CMM - Coordinate Measuring Machine) could be an excellent career choice. Mechanical Inspectors play a critical role in maintaining product quality and ensuring compliance with the latest industry standards.

Learning and mastering CMM programming can open doors to highly specialised roles in engineering.

You can also earn competitive salaries, often ranging between £30,000 - £45,000 in the UK, depending on your level of experience, industry, and location.

Gregory Martin’s latest roles include those for a Mechanical Inspector (CMM) near Camberley, Surrey.

This role is for a subcontract CNC machining company primarily supplying components to the aerospace sector.  Due to expansion, they are looking to recruit an experienced Mechanical Inspector.

You should be a high calibre performance driven Aerospace Inspector, preferably with experience in the sub-contract machining market, particularly in the aerospace sector. The right candidate will also have knowledge of BS EN 9100 Rev D and ISO 9000.

As well as those general standards, you will have good knowledge of individual aerospace company requirements.

This role can be either a dayshift (39 hours a week Monday – Thursday 07.30 – 16.30) or a nightshift (Monday – Thursday 17.00 – 05:00 plus shift allowance).

Key duties will include:

  • CMM inspection activities and final inspection of predominantly aerospace machined components.

  • Producing final CMM Reports in readiness for First Article Inspection

  • You may at times be required to complete First Article Inspection Reports using Visual FAIR Software so an understanding of this software package and AS9102 would be advantageous.

Your goals will be to ensure that the company is complying with all the relevant standards that govern its activities and ensuring that customer requirements are achieved.

What are they looking for?

Ideally the right candidate will have experience in a similar role. You will also be educated at HNC or experience in lieu.

They are looking for someone with extensive knowledge of CMM Programming / running using PC-DMIS Software, which is critical for this role.

You should also have knowledge of conventional metrology methods including the use of Micrometres, Vernier Callipers, plug gauges etc. Extensive knowledge of sub-contract machining and knowledge of aerospace machining quality standards and treatment processes is also important.

The Mechanical Inspector will need to be able to work under pressure, prioritise tasks and work to a high degree of complexity and accuracy.

Salary is £18 to £20 per hour / £36,000 to £42,000 per year basic plus overtime paid at time and half.
